The Measurements of Intervertebral Foraminal Area and Angulation of Cervical Vertebra before and after Anterior Cervical Discectomy

چکیده
Cervical radiculopathy may be caused by an herniated nucleus pulposus or osteofit formations. Although anterior or posterior surgical procedures are performed for cervical radiculopathy, their effects on cervical intervertebral foramina are still being discussed. Recently, anterior cervical approaches are much prefered. After the anterior cervical discectomy, there are some surgical procedures where autograft, allograft or carbon cages are placed into the intervertebral disc space (1). Predicting Unilateral Postlaminectomy C5 Palsy by Measuring C5 Exit Foramen Area on Preoperative Computed Tomography
Background. Postoperative C5 motor palsy is known as a common complication not only after cervical laminectomy but also after anterior discectomy. There is no consensus to verify any of the proposed mechanisms of C5 palsy following posterior cervical decompression. The authors of this article have found that C5 palsy is more common among patients with smaller C5 root exit foramen area. The purp...

STUDY DESIGN This is a retrospective study. PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of the dynamic rotational plate to the intervertebral foraminal and discal height after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE There is no report regarding the changes of foraminal and discal height following cervical dynamic rotational plating. METHODS We reviewed the outcomes of 30 patien...
متن کاملEmpty Bladed PEEK Cage for Interbody Fusion after Anterior Cervical Discectomy.
AIM Cervical disc herniation (CDH) can be treated using different anterior and posterior methods. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is currently gold standard and provides bony fusion and good clinical outcome. Recently many studies reported good clinical and radiological outcomes in cases who underwent anterior cervical discectomy (ACD) and reconstruction with empty cage. This stu...
متن کاملChanges in foraminal area with anterior decompression versus keyhole foraminotomy in the cervical spine: a biomechanical investigation.
OBJECTIVE Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with or without partial uncovertebral joint resection (UVR) and posterior keyhole foraminotomy are established operative procedures to treat cervical disc degeneration and radiculopathy. Studies have demonstrated reliable results with each procedure, but none have compared the change in neuroforaminal area between indirect and direct deco...
متن کاملComparison of outcomes and safety of using hydroxyapatite granules as a substitute for autograft in cervical cages for anterior cervical discectomy and interbody fusion
Background: After cervical discectomy, autogenetic bone is packed into the cage to increase the rate of union between adjacent vertebral bodies, but donor site–related complications can still occur. In this study we evaluate the use of hydroxyapatite granules as a substitute for autograft for interbody fusion. Methods: From November 2008 to November 2011, 236 patients participated in ...
